Appointments System

To book an appointment you should contact the medical centre on 01243 77 69 88. Remember, in an emergency you should always ring 999 for an ambulance/paramedic.

Our lines open for appointments at 8 a.m.

PLEASE NOTE in the forthcoming weeks we will be introducing a new appointment booking system which will mean you will be offered either an on the day urgent appointment, a soon appointment or a routine pre bookable appointment. These will be offered according to the guidelines set out by our GPs.

Initially this may lead to longer waiting times on the telephones, as both staff and patients become acquainted with the new system. Please bear with us during the changeover. Thank you.

Seeing the Doctor

Morning surgery runs from 08:30 to 12:00 each day, afternoon surgery from 14:00 to 18:00.

In addition to the routine appointments, there is a duty doctor available each day to deal with emergencies.

To make an appointment, please telephone reception.

You will also be offered the opportunity to make an appointment to have a new patient health check with one of the Practice nurses.

Role of Reception

Our reception team do ask patients the reason for the appointment with the doctor. This helps us provide the most appropriate service for you. You do not have to give the receptionist a reason and if you choose not to, you will not be put under pressure to do so.

If you are willing to tell the receptionist the nature of your problem we will be able to plan your care better. In some situations you might find that your problem can be dealt with without needing to see the doctor.

You can always complete an online form to send in if you find it difficult to discuss over the phone.

Seeing the Nurse

There are a number of reasons why someone should be making an appointment with one of the nurses rather than the doctor and we would like to encourage our patients to book an appointment with a nurse in these situations. The nurses can deal with the following:

  • Asthma reviews
  • Blood tests
  • Blood pressure checks
  • CHD
  • COPD/Spirometry
  • Diabetes reviews
  • Dietary advice such as cholesterol lowering and weight reducing
  • Doppler
  • Dressings
  • Discussions about contraception
  • Requests for contraceptive pills
  • ECG
  • Family planning
  • Heart Disease annual reviews
  • HRT Checks
  • Immunisations (e.g. Babies, teens, travel)
  • Injections (e.g. Contraceptive, B12, Depo)
  • Review of wounds after surgery
  • Removal of stitches
  • Smear tests
  • Smoking cessation advice and support with stopping smoking
  • Swabs

If you require any other information about any of these services, please ask at reception.

Home Visits

We will visit patients at home if they are too ill to come to the surgery. However, doctors can see three or four patients in the time it takes to do one visit and seeing patients in the surgery also means they have access to resources that are not possible on a visit.

If possible, please come to the surgery.

If you are at all unsure, please tell the receptionist and the doctor will phone with you to assess what is best for you.

You should telephone before 10am if you need a visit to enable the doctors to plan their time.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
