Welcome to the Tangmere Medical Centre Website

Tangmere Medical Centre is a small, friendly General Practice providing general medical services to the local area. We aim to provide a high standard of medical care and a caring, friendly and personal service to our patients. Because we are a small practice our doctors, nurses and reception team get to know many of our regular patients well.

We moved to our current spacious purpose built premises with its own car park for patients and staff in September 2009.

Tangmere Medical Centre welcomes new patients from Tangmere, Boxgrove, the whole of Chichester, Lavant, Singleton, Westergate, Eastergate, Fontwell, Barnham, Runcton, North Mundham, Hunston, Donnington, Stockbridge, Fishbourne, Bosham, West Dean, East Dean, Eartham, Slindon, Westhampnett, Westerton, Strettington, Maudlin, Halnaker, Walberton and Yapton.

HOW TO REGISTER AS A PATIENT

Patients who live within our practice area boundary should phone or come in to speak to one of our reception team about the registration process. If you have your medical card, please bring it with you when you register. We will ask you to complete a new patient registration form and we will offer you a New Patient Medical check with one of the practice nurses. They will ask you some questions, check your blood pressure, height and weight and record your past medical history and any current health problems.

THE DISPENSARY

The Dispensary is open from 8am to 6.30pm.

Repeat prescription requests take two working days to process after the day the request has been put in.

Being a rural area we are able to dispense medicines directly to our patients if they live one mile from the nearest chemist. If you live within the mile limit and feel you have difficulty getting your medicine from the chemist please let us know and we may be able to help.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

If you are on continuous treatment and your doctor has authorised repeat medicines for you, you will receive a repeat ordering slip with each prescription. We ask that you use this slip when re-ordering your medicine.

The slip should be left at or posted to the surgery with at least two clear working days notice. It may take longer if your medication is due for review.

If we dispense your medicine from the surgery it should be ready for your collection after this time. We are not allowed to dispense to patients who live less than one mile from a chemist. For these patients most of the chemists in Chichester come to Tangmere Medical Centre regularly through the week to drop off repeat prescription requests and collect prescriptions. Please speak to the chemist of your choice about this service and then indicate on your repeat prescription request which chemist you would like your prescription sent to.

In order to provide a high standard of medical care we will need to review your health and medicines on a regular basis and you will be advised if you need to make an appointment. Your review may involve an appointment with one of the nurses or a doctor or both and may involve blood or urine tests. Some checks only need to be done once a year, but others are required every 6 months or in some cases more frequently in order to monitor certain medical conditions and keep you as healthy as possible.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

If you have high blood pressure stabilized with medication your doctor will usually recommend that your blood pressure is checked with a nurse every 6 months as long as the blood pressure is well controlled. Some patients taking medication for blood pressure will need an annual blood test. If your blood pressure is not well controlled, then we will advise individual patients how often we recommend they attend for review. Some patients monitor their own blood pressure and we are happy to receive details of your home monitoring readings for our records.

DIABETES

All our diabetic patients should have a full diabetes check every year. This usually involves an annual diabetes blood test followed 2-3 weeks later by a 30 minute appointment with one of our nurses who specialise in diabetes to complete the check. Please bring a urine sample to your appointment. If your diabetes is not well controlled, we may recommend that you have more frequent reviews. All diabetic patients are offered regular check ups with the Opthalmology (Eye) department at St Richard’s Hospital. This is usually offered annually. In addition we would recommend that you have an annual flu jab in the autumn.

ASTHMA

We would like all our asthmatic patients to attend for a 20 minute asthma review appointment with one of the nurses once a year or more often if we recommend this to you individually.

COPD

In order to optimise their treatment we offer all our COPD patients a 20 minute review appointment with one of the nurses once a year or more often if we recommend this to you individually. In addition we would recommend that you have an annual flu jab in the autumn.

HEART DISEASE

The doctors encourage all our patients who have ever had angina or a heart attack to have an annual check with our nurses which will usually include an annual fasting blood test. In addition we would recommend that you have an annual flu jab in the autumn.

PATIENTS WITH A HISTORY OF A STROKE OR A MINI STROKE

We recommend that all our patients with a history of a stroke or a mini stroke to attend for an annual check with the nurse which will usually include an annual fasting blood test. In addition we would recommend that you have an annual flu jab in the autumn.

THYROID DISEASE

All patients taking thyroxine or with a history of thyroid problems should have an annual thyroid blood test.

EPILEPSY

We would like to review all patients with epilepsy at least once a year.
